I'm working on an essay for school about the amount of things people have and if and why we (think) need them.
Please add your age and the country you live in for me to get an idea how the answers differ from person to person.

Not much, gness...just my drawing pens, credit cards/id and a change of clothing, a couple of family pics and paintings as well.

More seriously, we had an emergency list drawn up from when we lived in Shanghai and if ever we needed to get out in a crisis. Never had to act on it, thank goodness, but better prepared than taking it on the fly.
I see......but I'm still lost on the cricket thing.
Shanghai English (single) expat thinks the most valuable thing is to preserve the cricket heritage so unscrews the panel from the club and takes it out in his luggage in the emergency evacuation back in the late 50s as the Chinese communists take the city over.

Once to HK, gives it to the Royal HK Cricket Club where it hung until the 90s.....and then was mounted as a trophy when the new Shanghai club was created and played against them (in Shanghai for the first time).
It's not the first thing any normal person would think of putting in their limited baggage. The wealthy Chinese, by the way, took their jewels and jade - and a trip now to the Taipei Jade Museum is mind-boggling when you see what they got out - not that I am a massive fan of jade but you can certainly appreciate the pieces.
I'm guessing red ?
My apologies Sam .

Wine

I've just opened a bottle of Red, I must've stepped off somewhere... I do hope that you do well Sam with your school essay.
I hope so too, Ark......it's an interesting question for us all to mull over.......x
Night, anne, and all....don't put your cherished great wine bottles in your case, Sam...they could easily break. Good luck with your paper. Could be fun to read.
