The patient has been seen by a GP when it happened.... so am not using this forum as an alternative to medical advice...Hi, my Mum in law who is 83 had a soft tissue lump on her right shoulder for many years, about the size of a golf ball. Last week it doubled in size overnight. The GP was called, and she attempted to drain it, but there was nothing to drain. It's not sore, but can anyone enlighten me as to what the name of it is. The lady is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's, and is on no medication for this. Obviously the GP must have expected fluid to be there, and the patient is in no obvious pain (we always know when she is in discomfort). Opinions appreciated.

First thought is a lipoma...benign fatty tumour.....but no idea why it would double in size overnight, but would explain why there was "nothing to drain.

Well that's my lot, except for a sub-acromial bursa, which is "housemaid's knee" of the shoulder...that might "double in size" but no idea why GP couldn't get fluid out.

Well..they are my thoughts....no big deal either way.

Thank you Sqad, your opinion always appreciated. So far so good, nothing sinister appears to be happening with her health.
