I've never dealt with my nicotine addiction but stopped smoking using lozenges. I see lots of people using vaping pipes . They must be safer than cigarettes, no tar for example, but could their users be storing up health problems for the future?

I had to into Swansea Town Centre today, the first time since last last year.

I could help but notice the huge amount of places catering to the vaping community. If it wasn't for shops selling vaping paraphernalia, and those dealing in Mobile phones, the town centre would be next to empty....it was every other shop !
I can think of nothing worse than a sickly sweet vape/e cig - it cannot possibly satisfy someone who previously smoked tobacco.

Nicotine is what you crave and that's what they should contain.

Back in the 70s my Mum tried to pack in by smoking rose flavoured cigs , we all nearly moved out - yuk!

//Having been a 60 per day smoker for around 45 years //

60 per day ?

crikey
And its a crikey from me as well !

Lets hope you have stopped in time Chair !
My granddad smoked between 80-100. More or less chained smoked. He got ill and the doctor told him if he didn't stop smoking he'd probably be dead in a few years. He gave up straight away.
I must say that I am not in any way surprised that smokers develop diseases such as lung cancer.....its only logic that if you were to take all that pollutant down into your lungs every day, it would be bound have an injurious effect at some point.

What I find much more interesting though, are the people who smoke for years and never have any ill effect. As a scientist, I would be much keener to study them, then the people with lung cancer.
My other granddad was also a heavy smoker. He was knocked over aged 84 going to the shop for a packet of fags so I suppose you could say the fags killed him.
As our lungs are designed to breathe air, how can breathing any else possibly be safe ?
My Mum took 9 months to die from her lung cancer, and it was far from a pretty sight.

But although most of her family now no longer smoke, I still have one niece and her partner who do. This makes me so angry sometimes, but as a Uncle I have to bite my tongue.
I smoked all my life till 2 years ago, when I found out I had COPD, and now use e-cigs, with nicotine.

I have asked my 2 chest consultants about how safe etc, and both said what Sqad says, early days, nobody knows yet.

On a lighter note, do you remember the old black & white tv adverts, saying, so & so ciggies are good for you, with somebody having a puff, on a Capstan Full Strength, or a Park Drive? :-)
trt....I remember adverts where Doctors extolled the virtues of one brand over another !

Many year ago, when I was in my teens, we all tried Consulate, the menthol flavoured brand, in the vague hope that they were "better" for you.

I also smoked Silk Cut, for similar reasons !
My uncle died of lung cancer and my dad died of liver cancer damage caused by alcohol. He didn't have a drink problem and never ever drank in the house. Just had a liver that didn't like alcohol...
