Hi, this has been worrying me for years (literally!) so it'd be really helpful to get your opinions, please! I never know whether to tip or not when I get something done at a beauticians (usually this would be a manicure or a wax). Because I'm not sure, I tend to always tip 'just in case', but a lot of my friends say that they don't. I'd be grateful for your opinions - and, if you do tip, how much would you say is an average amount? Thanks in advance! x

My housemate is a beautician and she says yes!!!! They are paid crap wages just like hairdressers, and if you are happy with job and impressed with the therapist then 10% of the bill is the general amount, but they are happy to even get 50p!!! Also, if they know you tip, I have found personally that they give you loads more samples, will squeeze you in for an appointment even when busy, and spend loads more time with you! this is because they know you value their work.
daftpixi is spot on in my opinion. I am a hairdresser and always appreciate a tip, although i do not expect it. Its nice at the end of the day, just to top your wage up. I wouldn't say i treat tippers better though. Christmas is the best!!!

Oops, and unruliejulie! Thanks both! xx

p.s. I'm gonna tell my stingy old friends that they're BAAAAAAD...

I tip my hairdresser and my beautician just because I thought it was the done thing (my mum always did it). Admittedly I resent it a little when I spend over hundred quid getting my hair done, and around 70 quid a month at the beauty parlour, although I realise they arent that well paid. I give between 5 and 10 quid a visit, depending on what I have done.
wow goodsoulette, wnere do you go? expensive! You are welcome to come to my salon if you tip like that!!! lol
I always tip, say ive had a pedicure and it cost 18, i would give them 20 and say keep the change, its easier and less formal that way, I always feel unfortable if i pay by card then have to fish a tip out of my purse, its like deciding how much theyre worth, so the keep the change routine works best for me
I agree with daftpixie and katcaf1985. i tip both the hairdressers and beauty therapists. if its my hair i generally give between 8-12 (a pound or two for the shampoo-er, a pound or two for the person who combs and the rest for the stylist who does my hair. with manicures and that i just give 2-3. i think its good to tip if you're happy with what they've done although i do sometimes feel pressured to tip out of habit!!!!!
