It seems nearly all of them are liberal lefties, why is that? Is it because they are usually wealthy so they feel guilty and feel they think it shows their caring credentials?

Talbot - indeed.

One has refrained from C & P'ing one's post in the hope and belief that not adding one's text to the text one has already posted, referring to one's previous post, will ensure that one will not confuse one with one's desire to ensure that one's post and one's reply post, referring to one's original past, will not confuse one, which one would be seriously keen to avoid.

One hopes that's clear to one, but if one wishes to reply to one concerning one's above missive, or indeed any of one's other comments, one is always pleased to hear from one.

I think all this talk of 'queens' has gone to one's head.

The stats you presented do not support your argument at all.

If LGBT is 'slightly' less fond of the Conservatives than the population as a whole, it does not mean that gay people in the arts could impact numbers to the degree that dave50 is suggesting.

Also - this statement is not quite true:

In films for another example the days are over when such gay actors as Rock Hudson had to be portrayed as a masculine hero.

Closeted gay actors (as Rock Hudson was) are still portrayed as masculine heroes. They cannot come out and still get the roles they had before.
I have a funny feeling that this thread should have been removed by a Mod.....its even worst that that daft one we had yesterday from AOG.

Regarding your OP...whilst it may seem that the arts and music are nearly all 'lefty liberals' (sigh), we should take into account a couple of things.

First - think about the U.S. country music scene. Because its origins is in the south and mid-west, its stars are overwhelmingly conservative in outlook. It's not accurate to make a broad statement about the arts without taking that into consideration.

What is true however, is that the arts is both liberal and very, very conservative. Big Hollywood studio executives are highly conservative, although the artists they represent may veer towards liberalism.

Also, an important consideration is that the music industry's primary target are the 16-30 year olds. That demographic is the largest consumer of popular music, and that demographic is far more likely to veer towards the liberal end of the political spectrum. Therefore, conservative artists are far more likely to keep scrum about their views for fear of alienating their audience.

I mean...remember what happened to the Thrashing Doves when Margaret Thatcher declared how much she loved their song on Saturday Superstore back in the 80s?

Career killed in one day.

sp, didn't know who Thrashing Doves were , so checked them out.
I normally have nothing but contempt for Thatcher but on this occasion I think I ... and the music industry as a whole owe her the utmost of utmost and even more most gratitude.

Generally speaking, it's difficult to be a cool, trendy musician and be a conservative or on the far right.

It's not necessarily the case with actors though, especially of their public persona is that of a tough guy (cf. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Segal or Chuck Norris).

I would've added Mel Gibson to that list, but for obvious reasons...etc.
While the initial statement may see crass, there maybe some merit in the thought behind it.

It's not cool to be seen as following the same mantra as those in power, with the tory government in place it wouldn't be right for Eddie Izzard and that coterie to stand up and say that Teresa is doing a great job.

The arty types, musicians in particular have the ability to draw people in and modify general cultural thinking; its easy for politicians to garner their support when they need it. Similarly with the LGBT groups, it's not "cool" to be seen as a right winger therefore the perception is that that they are all left wingers when that's not necessarily the case.

There also some truth to the fiscal comment made early in this thread, "most" of these "arty types" under discussion seem well off and slot neatly into that wealthy, elitist, left wing, liberalist stereotype, rightly or wrongly; perception is all and sometimes we are guilty of percieving reality!!
I think that the statement made in the original question is inconclusive and very little in the thread as a whole has changed my viewpoint.

Perceptions and suppositions do not amount to a great deal and I agree with sp1814 on his comment in reply to AOG with what constitutes a majority.

It seems to me that any understanding of what the reality may actually be has been compounded by a lack of focus and evidence on the central theme.

Peculiar diversions and insults flying around don't really facilitate decent debate or am I,as a newcomer, being unrealistic and naive?

Divebuddy,ok.That's a real shame.

I can agree or disagree with a post(s) but there's a civil way to express oneself.

I think some posts are inflammatory and conceived with little aforethought as to how they will be received.

Dave - Gene Simmons from Kiss, Kid Rock, Loretta Lynn.
Omarosa Manigault and Trump has endorsed her.
Well I think people on 'The Apprentice' are actors ... judging by this years mob on BBC they were acting like they knew something about business.
