My Doctor put me on atrovastin 20mg for colestrol. Blood result 6.2. I only no Simavastin. Why not start on 10mg first.? Whats the diffrence in the statins.?Very confused. x

Because of the blood results then it must be necessary. I have been on 20mg for 5 years now. Just remember to take them at the same time each evening.
(this was the hospitals advice to me)
A toss of the coin jac...both 10mgm and 20 mgms are very low dosages so I shouldn't worry too much about it.
All statins work in the same way biochemically, stopping the liver producing cholesterol and the difference is purely their biochemical structure.
If you get side effects from one statin it may be that another statin will work without the side effects.

Thanks Squad for your answer. I was a little dizzy at first with the atrovastin but my doc also highered my bp tabs to 20mg as well. Things seem to have settled now so i take both tabs after breakfast. Thank you again jpt x
