What are the minimum and maximum weights of national hunt and jump jockey and is it different for males and female jockeys? Ive looked all over the internet but all sources seem different and seems to have changed in recent years. Can anyone provide me with a source/website with this information?

Just to add that flat racers rarely if ever carry more than 10 stone. To clarify for johnny37, the aim of the horse trainer is to have as little weight on their horses back as the handicapper will allow, as the less weight the horse carries the faster it can run. Im not an expert but i believe there is no limit. The weight of the saddle and jockey is used when working out handicaps. If the combined weight is above that it does not matter if the jockey has exceeded the limit. (except to the horse!).

The maximum a HN horse used to HAVE to carry for handicap purposes was 12 st

The minimum for a flat jockey is 8 stone but apprentices can claim 5lb

it is no different for male or female jockeys it it was o the sport that men and women compete equally.

No one would put up an overweight jockey (overweight in the sense of over the weight they had be designated to ride in he race). this is why many jockeys have to seat off the last few pounds for a race and not drink any water for a few ours beforehand.
