OMG. I've just opened up a packet (polystrene base, cling film on top, ya know) of salmon fillet. As I was checking for bones, I found A DEAD MAGGOT nestling right next to it!

I feel sooo sick. What should I do next to complain?! I bought it from Morrisons.

Don't send back to Morrisons without taking a picture first. Take picture of maggot in fish and then put maggot on plain background and take picture of that too - close up. Write to Morrisons saying when and where purchased - enclose pictures and tell them that you have frozen the actual fish and maggot as you will pass on to Environmental Health Department for thier inspection if you are not satisfied with Morrisons explanations when they come. Morrisons will likely send you vouchers for their store and a written apology. They will likely ask you to return the fish as well. Its up to you whether you choose to report them, but don't take the first offer of vouchers that Morrisions offers - hold out until you feel you have been reasonably compensated for your distress.

Ewwwww!!

That is disgusting.

At the risk of turning this into a "the mankiest thing I ever found in my food" thread, I once found a filling in a sausage. Not my own filling!!

I found part of a denture in a M&S liver and bacon meal. I had already cooked it and was just dishing up when I saw it. Took it back to M&S and they launched an investigation. Outcome was they couldn't explain how it got there and they gave me 50 in vouchers which I thought was OK but I will never eat another ready prepared meal like that again.

Back from Morrisons, they refunded me the cost of the fish and gave me.. wait for it.. a 5 voucher. I expressed my disgust at this and mentioned all the right words, environmental health, food hygiene standards, unacceptable.. but the "manager" seemed unfazed. The sample will apparently be frozen and I filled in a Customer Action form which will go to Head Office.

I took photos of the fish and maggot before I handed them over - should I email head office and express my disgust? Will it get me anywhere?

Thanks :)
nect4r don't leave it at that - 5 is disgusting. I got 20 for simply a piece of plastic in a cake from Sainsburys and a very apologetic letter. Write to their head office and tell then you are very unsatisfied with the way your complaint was handled at your store. Copy your pictures and add these to your letter and tell them that unless you hear from them within 10 days offering better recompense, then you will have no alternative but to pass the pictures onto the Environmental Health Dept. DON'T GIVE IN - THIS IS SCANDALOUS
I agree with Dollie! Large corporations think that they can just walk all over the general public, don't let them get away with it nect4r! Stick to your guns!

Now that you have surrendered the evidence to them. What do you think your local Environmental health dept can do for you exactly?

You should have went straight to them if you were concerned re public health issues.

Most people in this situation are merely looking for compensation and Morrisons knew it!

Farmed salmon is notorious for worms etc, just look on the web.
