One of my Goldfish has died and I wonder if I should get the remaining goldfish a new friend? Do goldfish get lonely? Problem is this guy is about 6 years old.

Will he remember??.
It will make you feel better if your goldfish has a companion. Do get one.
New friend or a mate?
6 years is nothing to a goldfish so maybe a friend would be good? BUT what did the other fish die of? If it was anything infectious, I’d clean out your setup thoroughly and use medifin before getting another fish.
Having had a tank mate for that long, it would probably be happier with another friend.
No, wouldn't bother.

If your new one is smaller than the original it'd be dinner before you know it.

My goldfish is about 15 (ish) years old, and had a tank mate some years ago, which he ate, along with a shoal of minnows.

The carnivorous little git is now alone, and that's the way he'll stay. I'm also leaving him in my will to my youngest as im convinced he'll live us all out!

you sure it's not a piranha?
Haha wouldn't surprise me!

I'm still in shock that he (?) is still with us. Elder Mini Boo was 12 when she brought him home from a school fair, she's since moved out, left him with me and he's (again ?) still going strong!

But in all seriousness Iggle, Unless you like to see cannibalism, I wouldn't get a tank mate for yours.
