She just murdered Don't Cry For Me Argentina. Her voice is not a patch on what it used to be. Why don't singers like her, Elton, Macca, etc, realise when they're past it and pack it in?

With regard to some our more mature performers not bowing out gracefully - there is a two-pronged reason for this I think -

Firstly the performer is keen to continue to enjoy the unique buzz of live performance which has been the centre of their life for as long as they can remember, and secondly, the audiences want to experience the 'magic' of the original performance, and are prepared to forgive the simple fact that it is never going to be a strong as it once was.

This leads to a combination of artists who still perform, but are by any reasonable measure past their best - and that includes Ms. Paige and Mr McCartney, but also those who are as sharp as they ever were as live performers, and that includes people like the immortal Rolling Stones.
and tom jones and Shirley bassey ,great even now x
I was shocked at how her voice had deteriorated. Very sad.
For Elina

When I saw Evita in the 70s in the West End it was Stephanie Lawrence.

Just had a thought it was early 80s not the 70s .. Sorry
Loved her singing Argentina originally but her rendition on Sunday was sad to hear ! She is still a beautiful lady though.
can't stand her! radio show makes me cringe..do grow up and shut up wummin !!
I don't like Ms Paige's radio show either - so I don't listen to it, that means I avoid being irritated by her at all.
Andy..LBC is quickly tuned into at such times...!! lol...
Some artists seem to be able to adjust to their aging voice. I preferred Willie Nelson's voice when he was around 70 to when he was around 30; there was a kind of fragility in it, and he isn't doing too bad now at over 80. I saw Leonard Cohen three years ago and thought he handled his songs brilliantly too for his age.
