He was one of those men who wasn`t attractive when he was young but he was attractive when he was older. Unfortunately, I find his songs as depressing of those by The Carpenters.

Gilbert depressing? I find quite a lot of his music very upbeat. If you want 'depressing', try almost anything by Oasis ;-)

I think depressing music was quite popular in the 1970s. Remember Honey by Bobby Goldsboro? There were a lot of songs like that

^ a bit like my feelings about The Carpenters. Funnily enough though, when I was in my early teens I didn`t much like Abba or the Bee Gees but now when I hear them I think they are fantastic

I was of the punk generation, but I could tell Abba's songs were class, and I liked them even when I wasn't supposed to.
The BeeGees looked pretty ridiculous in the 1970s so that was very off putting. And while their harmonies were spot on, I remain unimpressed.

I was the punk generation too. It wasn`t cool to like Abba (I was into reggae and Roxy Music) but when I hear Abba now (and the BeeGees) they sound fantastic and their music hasn`t dated

The local radio station is currently playing a song by Dire Straits. Now there is a band who`s music has dated IMO

I think Gilbert O'Sullivan is vastly underrated as a writer and perfomer.

His rendition of Alone Again Naturally is heart-breaking, conveying all of the anguish of loss and absent communication in families - wonderful piece of work.

Some of his lyrics are class. 'If the Indians begin to charge, what will the Cavalry pay' is just one line that cracks me up and there are many more. There are meanings to his songs as well. I love him!
