Thanks all. I wanted a
Rough indication of how other people are coping with the cold snap. My flatmate turned it up to 24 and I thought that was too high, and wondered what others had it on. Turns out it is very varied but there aren't many 24s!
17.5, just turned it down as OH never looks, he simply turns the dial, it was up at 25 and it's like a sauna. We only have it on for a couple of hours in the morning then three hours in the evening.
Normally 22 but I'll shove it up to 25 when I get home from work. It takes from about 4.30 until at least 9pm for my house to warm up
23
35f out in the oil boiler house- it's enough in the house.....
18 normally, occasionally up to 20, off all night can't sleep in a hot room
There's no thermostat in my house (unless you count the knob on the side of the oil-filled radiator which provides the only heating I've got). The thermometer next to my desk as I type this tells me that it's currently 11C and I've no intention of turning the heating up based upon that. (I was brought up in a home where 50F = 10C was regarded as the warmest we could afford to pay for and I taught for many years in a classroom where such temperatures were the norm throughout the winter months).
it is interesting at all the different heat settings..but can I add to this by saying do you turn your heating off and on again,,..or leave it to the thermostate and just turn that up and down.?
Scarlett, what does 24 at the thermostat give you in the rest of the house though?
No thermostat here either, storage heater in the lounge is set at level 3 out of a maximum of 6.

Chilly but well wrapped up.
Chris, all that orange hair must keep you warm..................and the cats as scarves.:-)
Heating off and sat in front of a roaring fire.
Currently at 18 degrees. It's been on 16 all day but it's now got decidedly chilly.
Tilly:
It's actually quite a long time since I had much 'fur' on top!

The cats do help to keep me warm, especially when Biscuit snuggles up under the duvet with me (or, as he sees it, when he graciously allows me to join him under his duvet, where he spends much of his time anyway!)

I have just given in to temptation though, and turned the heating up a bit. The new cat, who moved in a week ago, seemed to be expecting me to do so!

My last electricity bill showed that I was £430 in credit, so I can probably afford a little bit of heating now and then anyway ;-)
You have another cat? I didn't hear about new cat.
21c so 70f ..! In shorts and a rather fetching Bahamas islands t-shirt....house is well insulated and cosy.......turn down to 12c at night as warm enough under duvets .....turns on auto at 5:30am so toasty when wake up.

Expecting -4 tonight here on Sussex south coast.....thats cold!
I'm not sure whether he'll be staying or not, Tilly. I suddenly found that I'd got an extra cat in my house about a week ago, demanding food and fuss, and he's not left since.

He's a beautiful silver-grey intact male, with a white chest and white socks. I think that he's adorable but my own four cats aren't quite so sure about that! He's obviously been well cared for and seems to be an indoor cat, preferring to use a litter tray than to go outdoors.

I've looked on all of the local noticeboards, lamp-posts, etc for 'Missing Cat' posters but found nothing. I've also asked the post lady if she's seen any posters or knows where he comes from, but she couldn't help. I've asked the local vets if they've had a missing cat reported but they know nothing about him. I've taken him down there and had him scanned for a microchip but he's not got one. This afternoon I did a leaflet drop around the 70 houses nearest to me but nobody has phoned to claim him. Over the next few days I'll put up some posters and probably deliver some more leaflets. I might also let Cats Protection know that I've got him.

I'm sure that somebody must be missing him but if I can't find out where he belongs he'll just have to stay!
is this the person who doesn’t have much caring instinct? :)
Reading the collection of answers here should suffice as an explanation as to why the UK is considered a very cold place, in particular among European nations (as well as those from places where the outdoor temperature never goes below 10 degrees).
