When I went to work before I had the kids bank holidays were double time and a day off in lieu if you worked them. If you had the day off you were paid as normal also overtime (above 39 hrs) was time and a half or more

Although I have worked in a school for seven years bank holidays are not an issue as we are paid pro rata holidays.

I have just started work for a large supermarket chain and their is no uplift for over time, it is just the flat hourly rate and bank holidays are only normal rate plus a day off in lieu and no pay if you don't work it regardless of what your normal working week is.

There seems little point in having bank holidays if you can't take them off paid.

^ sorry that was for mikey and cassa who were seeing the prorating of bank holidays as a political party issue. It's more to do with fairness in employment law
N/24 9/25, and what is your Business experience then??.

I don't see it as political. It was I think Mikey did and I was saying if it was it is all of them to blame not just one party.

Looking at the issue with fresh eyes it makes sense to prorate it for fairness sake to the mostly women part time workers. It is just a bit of a shock going back into the work environment with it all changing and getting no monetary uplift, not even any extra for overtime just flat rate lol

Sometimes things seem like you get less but in reality you don't.
I see your point re one day working f-f, but surely the better solution is to have different contracts for Monday only workers. Each named day contract could differ offering more annual leave to those scheduled to receive fewer national holidays.
