New Printer Problems

Hi, I've got a new HP F3831 office jet printer, got a good offer, but struggling to get it to work.

I've been all over it and removed all the packaging and tape inside but it's still saying there is a jam, this is just in set up, not even got to trying printing yet.

It then wouldn't recognise the printer ink cartridges. They came with the printer and are the correct 302 ones, black and tri colour. I've checked they are in the right order and tried gently cleaning them as suggested in a HP site.

I've tried on Google for the error messages and it seems the cartridge issue might be causing the jam message where it's telling me to check all the packaging has been removed.

I've taken the cartridges in and out numerous times but no joy.

It then came up with an error message a few times saying the printer cartridge space door was open which it definitely wasn't and persisted even when opened and shut numerous times.

I'm a bit at a loss. Could it be the cartridges supplied are duds or is it more likely the printer has an issue. Need to do some printing very soon so wondered if anyone on here had any ideas.

Got to go sort a medical issue but will be back later so apologies if I can't reply right away.

Sorry, ignore the F! Just a 3831.
Why not return it to the supplier ? It is still under gaurantee.

The more you mess about with it the more likely you are to do some damage that gives the supplier a 'get out'.
You say the cartridges "came with it" does that mean in the box and are they genuine manufacturers ones. If the answer is yes, then you should return it, it's a bore, but you shouldn't have to put up with these issues.

That's true Derek. Just making sure I'm not missing something for obvious first though there shouldn't have been any issues setting it up and not like I am really in-techy albeit I'm no expert. Should have been a straightforward set up.

Yes it's under warranty and from Argos, who are usually very good with returns. Pain as it was a gift but hopefully a replacement will with if I can get them to sirt that.

The cartridges were in the box with the printer and are gently one HP ones and the correct number.

That's one drawback I have returning it, is it the printer or the cartridges. I bought extra cartridges, HP ones, as there was an offer to get them with the printer and have lots of printing and copying to do.

But, I read you aren't meant to leave them out open so loathe to open them to try in case they don't work either and it is the printer and I might ruin two lots of cartridges, the second lot of which weren't cheap.

Am going to try it again when I get back, and any suggestions from here, and if still not working will ring Argos.

Hi Fender, yes I did. I got some black ink on my hand from the black cartridge.

I gave both a gentle clean over as per the HP site suggestion to see if that would work but no.

Hans.
Eve I had an HP printer once, a different model to yours. However I did used to get the same sort of problems as you are experiencing, right from the beginning. My solution was to switch it off and leave it for a few minutes and then switch it back on again, had to do it more than once sometimes. Worked in the end.

Hi, sorry for the late response. I ended up getting in touch with HP but no joy so I've had it picked up and it's replacement delivered. Argos are great with returns. Not had chance to get it set up tonight as in bed (as I type) as shattered and a very early start tomorrow but fingers crossed it will be up and running tomorrow!
