Looking for some advice about escaping the cold in January/February and staying for 4/6 weeks in hotter conditions in Europe. ( OTHER DESTINATIONS CONSIDERED)
Has anyone any experience of getting away at this time of year?
I would appreciate any advice.
There are 2 of us; myself and my wife. We are both in our mid sixties.
Thanks in advance.

Go to the Caribbean. You won`t find any heat in Europe

Thanks.
Sounds good but wife wont travel that far.
Yeah Jamaica mon! Go to Montego Bay!!!!
It only takes about 7 hours or so to get to the Caribbean
Although you did say OTHER destinations, Tenerife, It good & and warm Climate.4Hrs 15mins.
I've had two holidays in Siberia....minus 45C....excellent. (Can't stand hot, sunny holidays!)
weather in southern Europe is mild to cool, but generally rather warmer than in the UK: about 12 degrees on average in Malaga in January, roughly what it is in Britain now. If that sounds tolderable, southern Spain, Portugal or Cyprus might do you, but don't expect it to be hot.
South Africa. A ten hour flight each way, but so beautiful. Warm, too.
Cape Town or a safari or anywhere on the south coast.
Questions about warm/hot winter breaks having been coming up regularly on AB since I joined the site over 10 years ago. There's nowhere in Europe which will be 'hot'. The southernmost parts will have temperatures around 13C (e.g southern Greece) to 16C (e.g Malta).

Cyprus (which is politically in Europe but geographically in Asia) will typically have daytime maximum temperatures around 16C to 18C.

To get any real warmth, you need to head further south (which, unless you'll consider 'long haul' destinations such as Australia, means Africa). The most popular choice, by far, is the Canary Islands (which are, of course, politically 'European' but most definitely 'African' by geography). There you'll probably find daytime maximum temperatures around 21C but possibly with some strong winds on some days.

Egypt has also been a popular destination for winter breaks in the past (with maximum daytime temperatures in Sharm El Sheikh around 22C) but the threat of terrorism now deters many people.

Otherwise you'll need to consider countries further south in Africa, such as The Gambia (around 31C max daytime temp) or South Africa (26C) but long holidays there won't come cheap!

The Canaries might be your best choice, particularly as many of the hotels and resort complexes there are geared up to offering longer breaks during the winter months.
For the past 7 years, we've spent 2 weeks at Xmas in Tenerife.
Weather is generally low to mid 20's - sometimes higher. Not much rain - I think the most we've had over 2 weeks is a few days - some holidays we had no rain whatsoever :)
Stay clear of the cloudier north of the island; head for the warmer sheltered south instead.
We would be going again this year, but one of our dogs is ill, so it looks like it'll have to wait 'til next Xmas :(
I don't go on package holidays but Tenerife was always the destination of choice for Blackpool landladies, in their "off" season.

I guess it depends on how wealthy you are !
What about Southern California ?

Great climate and they speak a language similar to us !

( awful beer though ! )
If you want to stay in Europe, then one of the Canary Islands would be ideal as mostly all year round warmth and decent weather.....lots of sun but just nice.

We're there next week for a short 7 day break......and for a family wedding, as my niece lives there.

Caribbean Islànds are a choice too, especially Nassau area in the Bahamas and winter deals galore for long stay and what's been mentioned already. Going back to Europe, one of my favourite places is Malta and has a mild climate in the winter months with temps normally around 15c, which is around 60f and sometimes warmer.
