Will people be knocking on doors Trick or Treating, on Saturday night , or will it be Monday 31st? Just need to know so I can turn all the lights off and pretend I am out.

It's Monday the 31st.
All weekend and Monday.
love the gear Mamya
I've lived here for 8 years and no one has ever knocked. Loads of kids about as well.
I usually end up with enough sweets for the whole street.

We put a sign in the window of the porch that says "No Trick or Treat, Thank you"
We've been doing it for years and have not been Trick or Treated for years, with the exception of a couple of years back when two chancers tried it on last week in September.
Unlike Bonfire Night (which often gets moved from November 5th to the nearest Saturday for public firework displays, etc), Halloween seems to stay where it's meant to be, on 31st October, as far as trick-or-treating is concerned. (Many pubs seem to be having Halloween events on Saturday though).

I don't pretend to be out; I always GO out. It's a good excuse for, say, a day out in London (coming home late) or simply for an evening in the pub ;-)
it's too creepy at ours for kids ummmm
We have a sort of unwritten rule where we live - if you don't mind callers, leave your lamp on if you have one, or your curtains open and living room and hall lights on. If you'd rather not, then close your curtains, and leave your lights off, then people don't knock.

Works fine for us - se if you can get people to do the same.
That's the advantage of living in sheltered accommodation: no kids, no JWs, no Mormons.
I'll have sweets available for the 31st but if anyone knocks for them Saturday night they'll get nothing.
I have a lamp on, I get some odd callers.
Round here, you can only knock if there is a pumpkin or obvious Halloween decorations. Mine have outgrown it now- they have parties instead.

Lol, that made me laugh. I know you're only joking but can you actually believe that there are people who actually do this?

Unless you're scared of horror, are elderly or have been abused by kids doing this I would urge everyone to join in the fun.

I love dressing up, scaring the kids and handing out sweets, then getting the parent to take a photo of me with the kids and putting it online.

I just wish it was as big here as in the U.s where they go all out with cool animated animatronic props like this one

I keep sweets for people who are persistent, but I don't answer the door otherwise. Always 31st October, never had anyone calling on the Saturday before.
Sorry Lunol, I disagree. It's a dreadful American idea which has taken hold over here. I once answered the door and there was a six foot person with an awful mask on. Frightened me to death. I would never answer the door again. Fortunately I'm now in a sheltered complex so we don't get bothered at all, like Jackdaw. Why would you let your children go knocking on stranger's doors, when we tell them to beware of strangers.
I can understand your fear after going through a trauma like that hellywelly4 but actually halloween otherwise known as All Hallows Eve has roots coming from celtic harvest festivals which have pagan roots which originated here in the U.k.

I've never seen kids by themselves, they're always accompanied by an adult.

What the Americans have done is taken it, it has evolved and now some of our natives are getting into the fun of it.

Maybe we should have stickers like those no spam mail here stickers we stick on our letter boxes saying "No Halloween Trick or Treaters" and "Yes Halloween Trick or Treaters welcome" so those that are elderly, don't like Halloween or people knocking and those of a nervous disposition can voice their opinions without having to answer the door.
