Common sense at last, they run a business if you bake a cake in Liverpool colours does not mean that you support Liverpool!

They were in the wrong and its about time the accepted it.

andy-hughes, //Is that the royal 'we'?//

Well spotted. I'll change that to 'I'. Silly of me to think that everyone contributing here had bothered to read your previous posts.

//why do you post that the couple should 'make excuses' when you 'know' that they don't have to?//

I didn't say they should make excuses. Quite the opposite.

//Either you 'know' in which case, why post nonsense, or you don't 'know', in which case, why post that you do?//

Pardon?
Naomi - //Silly of me to think that everyone contributing here had bothered to read your previous posts. //

No, what is silly of you is assuming that you speak for everyone else on the site whether they have read any contributions, or none of them.
They don't have to make excuses, but admitting they have done something illegal doesn't mean the court will say "well done for being honest. Off you go..."

Sound reasonable.

What appears to have occurred here is that this couple were so chock full of religious bigoted indignation, that they had to make sure that the customer knew exactly why his cake fell below their own personal lofty standards, and in doing so they royally chased their quarry over a cliff and paid the price for it.

Except they didn't - their religious supporters did the paying for them.

All they have to do is examine the morality of their actions - and I would guess that won't take long.
They clearly aren't the brightest. We'll see...

Not the site - but I did assume that those who have read your posts on this thread would have understood what you'd said several times previously. My mistake perhaps for endowing other readers here with a smidgeon of intelligence - but personally, I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and for that I make no apology.

Appears to you. Not to me. You're quick to accuse people you disagree with of bigotry, but bigotry is defined as 'an intolerance towards those who hold different opinions from oneself.' Hmmm....

How about - if anyone doesn't understand something I have said, they ask me to clarify it, and if no-one asks, I can assume that they understand, and then you won't need to speak for them at all will you?

As for your rather sarcastic reference to 'endowing other readers here with a smidgeon of intelligence' - again, I doubt that anyone on here needs their intelligence assessed and rated by you, but now they know that if they feel the need, you are there to be called on.

Unlike you,I don't assume that everyone has read the entire thread - as some say they haven't, so I am happy to reiterate my view. You are welcome to ignore my view if you have already read it - and others can decide to read it or not - if that's OK with you?

Yup - hands up, I admit that I am only human, and occasionally, my own bigotry surfaces in the sight of breathtakingly arrogant bigotry such as this couple have produced.

I'll live with it.

As far as I can see no one has asked, so I can only conclude that, like me, you assume that the reader has understood what you've said. Therefore, why you feel compelled to repeat it over and over remains a mystery.

// I doubt that anyone on here needs their intelligence assessed and rated by you//

Not with you. I can't see how a compliment equates to an unwelcome assessment.

//I'll live with it.//

Haha! Doubtless!
When naomi and andy 'spar' like this, I far prefer naomi's pots. Just saying.

Thank you for your input, I am off to somewhere private for a little weep.
Aww diddums.

You're not helping!!!
Nor are you, Andy!
I wonder what would happen if "someone" asked a Muslim printer to run off a few cartoons containing images of Mohammed and was refused because of "religious" commitments.
// I wonder what would happen if "someone" asked a Muslim printer to run off a few cartoons containing images of Mohammed and was refused because of "religious" commitments. //

probably what would happen is that a public spirited citizen from the printer's community would relieve the "someone" of his head.
I'm getting a mental image of Naomi's pots, all pristine and stacked up nicely, just what I like to see.

Then he might find himself in court on discrimination charges.

Were you expecting someone to say something different?

//Then he might find himself in court on discrimination charges. //

Only if he told the truth. ;o)
// To the court, they business contravened discrimination laws by refusing to make the cake on the grounds of the orientation of the customer. That is discrimination, and it's illegal, hence the court case. //

That isn't what they did though. They refused to bake the cake on the grounds of the message it depicted. I think they would have made the same refusal irrespective of whichever customer asked for it.

Similarly, I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to supply any gay customers with a cake that said 'Happy Birthday' on it.

Now, I be wrong about this - there may be something from the court records where they said they didn't bake the cake because they didn't like the customer's sexuality, but I haven't seen that in any of the news reports.
