Anyone noticed the ITV Continuity Announcers are pronouncing this programme as "Too-Tank-Car-Moon". I always believed it to be "Too-Tank-Carmen". What Say You?

It's just another of the many names that are pronounced differently today from the way I was taught as a child. Like Boodicker(sp) and Kenya.

Nestle is now pronounced nesslay, when I was a saucepan it was nessalls!

Collins Dictionary gives the phonetics as . . .

tu (with a long 'u', like the 'oo' in 'food')
tan (with 'an' pronounced like the 'on' at the end of 'button')
ka (with the 'a' as in 'father')
men (with the 'e' as in 'bed')

The British museum held an exhibition of Tutankhamun back in 1972; it was quite a big event at the time. I recall a news story in which a family arrived at one of London’s main-line rail terminals and took a taxi – asking for ‘Tutankhamun’.

After a longer journey than they were expecting, their taxi eventually arrived at Tooting Common.

I like that! Perhaps ITV should re-name the series "Tooting Common" then!! You're right about Nestles now being Nesslay. That was always pronounced Nessalls when I was a kid too. A scone on a scon? Ice cream CONE hence SCONE. Happy Daze.

As no-one ever heard it pronounced when he was alive how can there be a right and wrong way? We can't even agree on pronunciations in the present day!
