Last day of holiday today - my MIL has been to our house every day to feed my two cats - mum and daughter aged 10 and 12. She's gone in today to find mum dead on kitchen floor. She's txt hubby to tell me which he couldn't for several hours. Am devastated and can't stop crying, she was perfectly well and bounding round house like a kitten when we left!. Just can't believe it

We can never be quite sure when we will leave this world. In the case of serious illness we can have a good guess. But even fit and healthy people and animals can be tasked by surprise, as in your case smow. I would say she didn't know it was coming, I would also say that she didn't suffer at all. xxx
A beloved pets passing is always difficult.

But, we do tend to outlive them.

I just can't stop thinking of how many hours she'd been laying there and what the other cat(her daughter) thought had happened
She wasn't there smow. Her daughter will be aware of what has happened, and be coping the best she can. She will need lots of love when you get home today smow.
Not a good finish to your holiday Smow.
Try and think of the enjoyment your cat has brought to your life and how much she has enjoyed life with you.

Nothing is forever.

Your cat would not want you to be sad!!!
Very sad news Smow to happen when you are away. Spare a thought for your MIL who must be feeling pretty awful herself. I always worry something will happen if I look after neighbours pets.

I know MIL must have had a huge shock and then having to tell hubby. Just can't believe she won't be there when I get back
Same here when I look after snowflake. Margo.

smow she will always be in your heart my lovely.
I'm so sorry :-(

Should have waited til you got back from hol to break the bad news
Aw smow :-( sending you a (((cyber cwtch))) losing a pet is heart breaking. Have lots of cuddles with daughter cat xx
Awful shock for you Smow. My heart goes out to you. Your lovely cat would not want you to be sad. She would want you to give all that love to her daughter.
Sorry Smow, awful thing to happen. Did your MiL take her to the vets to find out what caused her death?
Question Author
Hubby has just spoken to MIL. Apparently cats deteriorate very very quickly after death and so by time she got him to vet it would have been at least 24 hours. He said very hard to tell without extensive bloods etc but from what he can tell he thinks she had a sudden fatal heart attack x
What a shame, 12 years is no age for a cat. Will you think about getting a companion for the one left? When you're ready of course.
Question Author
Don't think I'll get another one whilst we still have this one here - she's quite timid x
