Advice On Light Fittings

I need to find a knowledgable source of information on light fittings. I have tried visiting showrooms, but their salespeople don't know enough. I have found a couple of specialist lighting websites which offer to answer any queries by phone or by email, but when I phone them they say "you have to email" and when I email they say I have to phone. Neither method has ever yet produced a reply of any kind. The basic problem boils down to " can I find a more modern version of the old fittings which will safely take a much brighter bulb" ? But salespeople do not have the level of expertise I seem to need. Any ideas ?

If you use LED lamps (bulbs), you can have them as bright as you want in just about any fittings because they run very cool...so find the fittings you like and they'll be OK for any LED lamp...and you'll save about 85% on electricity costs.
Yes ^ LED is the only way to go. Halogen lamps produce even greater heat than the conventional Tungsten filament bulbs.
