If a DVD is described as anamorphic, widescreen - I'm more concerned with the widescreen aspect - does that mean the film would be like the shape of a letterbox in a door; wide and narrow?
The DVD in question is Mr Turner, starring Timothy Spawl. Ta Muchly.

Hi Woodelf

On a traditional shape TV screen, with a 4 to 3 aspect ratio, the viewer will see black bars across the top and bottom of the screen. On a widescreen TV, with a 16 to 9 aspect ratio, the image will fill the screen. (Indeed, for most modern TV sets, 'anamorphic widescreen' is exactly what is needed for the optimum picture).

I recognise that, because of your visual handicap, this link will be absolutely useless to you directly (as it relies upon pictures to provide an explanation) but I offer it to you anyway, in the hope that it will be helpful to your partner or whoever else might be buying DVDs in your house:

Visual handicap, what visual handicap?...I just can't see at all, is all...big smile and Big Ta for the info and link Chris.
I sometimes buy DVDs for myself too, just relying on my memory of years gone by, so the size of image dunner matter, but in this instance, it's for my partner and I was hoping it would be okay, I hope it is.
Thanks again Chris.
