The whole crossword is based on 2 down being PASTRAMI.

'History records agricultural methods introduced originally for beef production'

I see how pastrami is obtained from the word play now, but pastrami is a beef product not beef production.

Can anyone help me understand this. I wouldn't normally be bothered but when you base a whole crossword around one clue it needs to be a good one.

According to this website, production can also mean product: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/production Which means that 'production', in the clue, could also mean 'product'.

I'll have a go.......

The production (usage) of the wordplay brings - Pastrami - Beef.
Rubbish, ignore me.
Perhaps production indicates something made from beef?
Ignore me also..

Checked on a site where they discuss this puzzle and no one queried it.

Thanks all. I might be nit-picking but when a clue is pivotal to a puzzle it should be unimpeachable. Product in place of production would have not diminished the clue.
