To maintain the warranty on a new car is it obligatory to use the Main Dealer for annual services – or can it be taken to any garage?

^^ Even my Vauxhall has that now , it records where and when the car was serviced. The main dealer has a copy in their records and the two need to match to qualify for a 'full service history'.

bhg481, it's not an issue of money - just distance. 25 miles seems a long way to go to get a car serviced.
Naomi - seriously...would you leave your car to be serviced on someones drive? No

Question Author
Ummmm, no, I wouldn't - but the people who issue the warranty don't know that.
The main dealer for my Vauxhall will come and collect the car for the service and deliver it back to you all at no extra cost. You get a loan car while yours is being serviced as well !

I didn't think of that, Eddie. When the time comes I'll make enquiries. Thanks.

And thanks to all for your contributions.
The majority of VAT Reg garages have time service with papers to prove their ability to work on any car Ummmm, a lot of dealers charge so many ££££££s just to Record / Stamp / Re-Code the car for the next service, that's the service light that comes up on the dash Panel of a car, my Daughter has an Audi, the dealers tried to shorten the service interval until I stepped in. if the car has been serviced by these Vat Garages ( Not the Dealers) the warranty has to stand, other than that, the Warranty Company can refuse to honour & a court case can be started.
TWR - I used to have a car repair company. While we did all bodywork repairs the tiny garage next door did the mechanical for us.

Naomi you've had plenty sound advice and I know you'll get it sorted.

Have to add however - a VAT Registration does not absolve every place from short cuts and shoddy workmanship, check where family and friends go is always a good guide.

Mamyalynne, I wouldn't take any car to anything less than a reputable garage.
I realise that, was in a way adding to Ummmm's point re the VAT aspect.

Garage owners unite :-)
Naomi, years ago I purchased from a Large Dealer locally, the car was serviced with a 56 Point service " OH GEE" when I got the car home I checked, the air intake which is one part of a vital component for the cars running, i removed the top of this part to find, 3 pieces of plastic & half a doz leaves, the brakes squealed like an artic trailer, that was a main dealer.
