The actor who plays Shariff in Corrie has been sacked for making racist tweets, do you think this deserves instant dismissal?

V_E, since you've already invoked Godwin's law, I feel able to respond -

//Wasn't Mr. H banged up for breaking the Weimar republic's hate speech laws?//

errr, no, he was arrested and imprisoned for treason as a result of the Beer Hall Putsch.
Coronation Street is ITVs flagship programme. It is sold around the world and it would do the company no good whatsoever to appear to be seen of tacitly approving of outbursts like this by not doing anything.
Ivor, observant Muslim's don't drink alcohol but I know many that do.

I've been misinformed, or, rather more likely, I've made the wrong inference from something I've heard or read. Thanks for correcting me, Mushroom.
"Interesting to see how he will be written out of the show now. "

He could go to Tracey's old bedroom in the Barlow house- she bogged off upstairs for about 10 years to do her homework once, and came down a decade later a different person altogether.

Now that's magic!

That is an important point to consider.

Soap actors have pretty seriously binding contracts. They include not advertising or endorsing products, having public appearances agreed, not changing their appearance without notice and agreement – not growing or shaving or facial hair, tattoos, piercings, surgery and so on (remember Lynn Perrie?)

And no doubt built in are clauses about bringing the show into disrepute, which this clearly was – and that will be a sacking offence.

Should it be a sacking offence? Mindful of jack's post, I would say yes.
ITV relies on money from advertisers. The truth of the matter is, if they had not taken the action they did, they would, potentially, have lost revenue.
Some of his co-workers may have objected to working alongside him, too

No
Anyone remember why Katy Cavanagh who played Eileen's sister Julie left Corrie. Was she sacked or did she leave of her own accord?
Appears it was her choice. In February 2015, it was announced that she would leave Coronation Street in order to pursue other interests. Her final episode aired on 3 July 2015.
And her chap is coming back - wotsisname. Brian!
