Maybe there's a risk of corrosion or explosion on during export.
Too risky.

Some are supplied with batteries but they aren't installed.
To keep the sale price down?
So they get more money out of you buying the battery seperately?
So that a battery operated item is not set off during transit.
Because batteries have a shelf life the product most likely doesn't.
I think Cloverjo has identified a reason if it's an item imported by air. Amazon have just been in trouble for importing stuff with batteries I recall.
Sometimes though it may be just to make the product cheaper- although why they can't just put a basic cheap battery in that will last a short period (as happens with some mice) I don't know

Sorry for the delay, been busy, If I bought a new car & some have been imported, it was fitted with a battery, you could turn the key and it should start, I purchased a Money Counting battery operated plastic container which had no batteries, so to me the Item was not working am I right? some that do have battery's have a slip of paper between the connectors & when removed Hey Presto it comes alive, do you see where I'm coming from, so in my way of thinking the battery's should be included.
Caveat Emptor, always read the description of the item you're buying.

Alway do Mam x, still does not get away with what I've said.
did it say it came with batteries then TWR?
PS following your logic, all electrical items should work without having to plug them in!
If they lied, tell them.

Hi Barmaid, on the box it does stated AA Batteries needed, but what I'm saying no matter what the box states, when the wrapping is removed the item should start up / or working for the customer to check immediately.
if it says "needed" and not supplied/included..then think you are on a loser here TWR :o)

///it does stated AA Batteries needed///

Seriously, does that not give you a clue?

I understand that Mam, but to me the Item is not working UNTILL you insert batteries. I'm not going to relonge this post as I can not get to grip how they can get away with this, years ago when you bought an Item with batteries it work instantly.
I think the simple answer is really to keep costs down , whether that be the price of the batteries or the extra labour used to insert fiddly bits of plastic to prevent leakage or corrosion.

Equally many people may have their own stash of batteries at home or use rechargeable ones.
MAAAAAMM???? oooooo...I'l swing for ya TWR !!! lol xx
