Unsure which forum so F&D will have to do.

Got a drawer full of glass dishes that I assumed were Pyrex. But now I want an oven dish I realise I can see no mark saying it is. But what the heck else could it be I ask myself ?

Apart from putting it in the oven and seeing if it cracks, is there any way to tell ?

Are they chunky, good weight OG?
Question Author
Yes fairly chunky.

(But there again so was my lead crystal Darlington pint glass when my mum put it in the microwave to heat some drink and claimed it must have had a fault.)
No marks at all you say?
Found this link to Pyrex, any help? ;0) http://www.pyrexcollector.com/dating.php

Nothing obvious. If pressed I'd say they were ovenware but nothing to say so. Oh ok it does vary .. ah rechecked the rectangular ones which I though showed nothing says marpnex and made in Brazil. The rounded corner one merely says jaj made in England. I gave up after taking out two.
Question Author
Thanks for encouraging me to have a second look. Marinex is ovenproof.
Question Author
Ah it seems jaj is a form of pyrex too. Unsure of the difference. Maybe I'm ok.
Good to discuss some things with another and get one's head straight.
Pyrex is the brand name....along with lots of others. The glassware that resists extremes of temperature is "borosilicate glass".

Cheers all. Marinex now trying to cope with 180°C/356°F.
Fingers crossed.
I once bought two ovenproof dishes from Lidl. They are so dangerous though, because when heated, they become extremely slippery.

It was a nightmare getting my lasagne out of the oven. I don't use them any more. I am terrified of dropping them, even when wearing good oven gloves.
Sorry OG ... I was going to come back with Marinex, had unexpected visitors. Anyway, you're sorted!

It survived ;-)

The trouble with 'serves four' recipes and a small fridge is I need to put half in the freezer now. Ah well, I do have the space there; for once.
