What's a OBC?
On board computer or on board camera?
What if the OBC fails?
Question Author
On Board Camera.
I told my insurers (LV=) that I'd fitted a dashcam and they weren't in the least bit interested.
I think that there should be no claims for whiplash, even though I have had whiplash in the past and know how painful and prolonged it can be.

Whiplash should be an anticipated and accepted risk of driving or being carried as a passenger. That would cut claims dramatically and hopefully reduce our car insurance premiums.
I have front and rear dashcam too, bhg, and my insurer wasn't interested either.
I had whiplash when I was hit from behind and it didn't occur to me to make a claim.
I couldn't drive or work when I had whiplash but I didn't claim either. I got it on a dodgem car at the funfair.

Apart from what has been said, it could affect your premium if you could NOT PROVE that you were not at fault, the camera could work in your defence, I have 2. I would use the evidence of a Time / Dated / OBC if it was needed.
The camera could also prove that you were at fault. Be quick to take the memory card out if that is the case :D
It'll get to the point that every vehicle will be fitted with a "black box"....something young drivers have to have to monitor their driving so they can get cheaper insurance.....if they drive properly.

Seems logical to me......you drive within the law, you get decent car insurance.....drive like a ***, you wont
The black box will never be compulsory
I think front & rear obc should be built into every car. Then maybe driving standards might improve and insurance fraud could be minimised.
It'd make little difference. Poor drivers are identifiable from their record anyway. Every insurance company will get a percentage of claims that they pay more for and a percentage that they pay less for than they would if exact facts were known, so in the larger picture it all evens out. So why lumber themselves with processing extra detail that doesn't benefit them. They're in the risk business to make money not record reality in detail.
I recently asked my Insurer what premium reduction would I get if a tracker device and camera were fitted, answer? zero.
As O G says they are only interested in making money, certainly not saving the motorist money or even cutting down on accidents.
Proving an accident was not your fault may not help your insurance premium.
Once you make a claim, any claim, you get a 'Claims History' on your insurance record. A person with a claims history will be charged an extra premium as the insurance company assume that having once claimed you are more likely than average to make another claim. My daughter left her car correctly parked in an official car park. When she got back someone had hit her parked car and cause £100s damage.Even though the insurance accepted she was 100% not at fault she still had to pay an excess premium on her insurance for 5 years due to her 'claims history'.
