what's the betting this sad event results in the officers concerned being hounded out of their careers, and the police service as a whole instructed forthwith not to chase stolen vehicles........

.....whilst the author of the same sad event is given a few hundred hours community service and has a licence he doesn't have confiscated?

252 innocent members of the public killed as a result of chases is not worth the cost of a car that is probably insured anyway.
I would sooner a car thief went free rather than a an 8 year old dies an horrible death.

This is why the Police increasingly use Helicopters for 'chasing' cars now.
The Helicopter can follow the car from the air and give details to police on the ground so that they can head off the driver. But at £15,000 an hour in a time of police budget cuts they can't always use a 'copter'.

The headline starts off with being 'pursued', the changes to being 'chased'. There is a difference which the enquiry will establish the truth. Never seen a helicopter 'chase' cars.

Davemano, The Helicopter stays at 1,000 ft or so and follows the car on it's video, relaying pictures / commentary back to officers in cars who are able to follow 'at a distance' so the driver does not realize he is being watched. You see it a lot on 'Police Reality' TV shows.
