I appear to have lost the ability to right click on an empty area of my desktop to bring up the menu which includes the New ¦ Folder option.
Is there a simple way to restore this please? I don't particularly want to get invovled in registry tweaks, which I don't fully understand but which seem to be suggested if I do a Google search for the problem.

Since it's a registry fault which is causing your problem, you'll have to do a 'registry tweak' but, fortunately, there's a script available to so the job for you (so you don't need to do anything complicated yourself). Download this file to your desktop:...

OG, I don't the answer to your question. As far as I know I don't have any restrictions and I don't have to sign in. The PC is for my sole use.
That's probably not it then.

Control Panel / User Accounts / User Accounts
Look what is says if you go to change your account. Administrator should be ticked.

(Don't worry; it's a trustworthy source!)

Double-click on the file.

In the window which opens, double-click on the entry which starts with 'Restore'.

Give approval to User Account Control to proceed.

Restart your computer.

Delete the file on your desktop.

Brilliant Chris!
Thank you very much for that. Easy when you know how!
Very pleased that i didn't have to trawl through unfamiliar registry keys.

My right click is now working as it should - but you knew it would, didn't you?

Thanks again
Thanks for your post.

It's always nice to get a reply but particularly so after I've told someone to play with their computer's registry. Then I know that it hasn't blown up ;-)
