/// Aaron Moffat-Jackman, a trainee vicar from Old Trafford, told the Manchester Evening News: 'What it did was trivialise a horrific traumatic time for many people. ///

Kunta Kinte is the main character in a book and tv series about slavery.
More "'outrage" leading to an apology here, this time from the BBC.

Any slightly ill-advised or not fully thought through quip that might have been forgotten about within minutes in previous decades can now lead to outrage as word spreads and campaigns start on social media
Coincidentally, Aaron Moffat-Jackman seems to be a bit slavery too, running off at the mouth as he does.
He may just be positioning himself as a go-to guy for the meeja when he's finished vicaring school, of course. The new generation of talking heads.
Absolutely ludicrous that they had to apologise, give me strength !
Without the orchestrated "outrage", would anyone have noticed and thought Oh, that's a character from Roots? In being "offended" they have created yet another opportunity for those on opposing sides of the argument. I'm reminded of Peter Wright's awful book Spycatcher, without the free publicity it would have sunk without trace. Who sang You say it best when you say nothing at all?
Ridiculous to have to apologise, a play on words, not racist in the slightest.
I think it was Onan Keating, Zebo.
/Particularly at a time when things are ongoing in America, with many black people getting killed by police, by white people. I think it would be very welcome for ITV to apologise.' /

By referring to the above,Aaron double-barrel, lays it on thick as to why the scriptwriters should have known better.

A dubious comparison if ever there was one and demonstrates his flawed logic.

He's an idiot !
I think that was Ronan Keating you are thinking of Zebo.

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me.
There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me.
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall.
You say it best when you shut your cakehole.
