we are only seeing the title when we try to answer no details , AB has had a problem but it is fixed now, you need to answer your own question and put details of the problem.
"I moved into my current property around 5 months ago. The property is rented property. Since a week before I moved in I have tried to sign up with British Gas for my Gas and Electricity. They would...."

Now you need to add the rest, kstill21- just reply like I did
a one way ticket to Dignitas is the solution, for whoever is responsible....

Type I moved into my current property around 5 months ago. The property is rented property. Since a week before I moved in I have tried to sign up with British Gas for my Gas and Electricity. They would get in touch saying my current supplier stopped the gas switch. I had spoken with British gas about this on countless occasions and they did not provide who the current supplier was.

This went on for months until they finally said that everything was sorted and BOTH my gas and my electricity will be transferred over to British Gas and I will have a bill generated on 31.08.2016.

Yesterday I was handed a letter who said they were working on behalf of NPOWER.
This letter was not in my name and I explained to this gentleman but he said he is will have to leave it anyway. After looking at the letter I saw they are threatening me with a warrant as they said I have an overdue payment of £304 I have to pay.

I can only assume that this was a debt started by the previous Tennant who left me with the problem.

As the debt was started before I moved into the property ad the letter is not even in my name, will I still be responsible for this? Answer Here...
Did you take readings or agree them with the landlord when you moved in? Maybe the bill is for your usage over the last 5 months and nothing to do with the previous tenant. See if your landlord can help

I wasn't told anything by the landlord at the time. I'm happy to cover the money over the last 5 months if that's the case but it still shows previous tenants name on this letter. Is there anything I can do with British Gas as they told me countless times that it's sorted and I don't need to do anything. If they told me otherwise I would have done something.
When you move in to a rented property it's essential to find out from the landlord who the suppliers are and then ensure the supplier is notified of the change and the opening readings. I don't think you can choose a supplier beforehand and maybe you need the landlord's approval to change supplier.
Given where you are now you need to establish the period covered by the bill and then negotiate something with the supplier. You can't then switch until the account is satisfactorily up to date. It'll be tricky but good luck

Thanks
FF has not clearly stated

you are not responsible for gas you havent consumed
you can say that down the phone to whom ever is saying you are

It is possible that British Gas probably didnt transfer you because they knew there was an outstanding bill.

Basically you need to sort out what part of the NPower gas bill you did consume and ARE therefore responsible for

Npower should have an idea as there will be consumption by your predecessor before hand. If there is an empty period then your share is gonna be greater.

I notice you're twenty one. I am much older than you
you know what I do when I move in ?
photograph the meters and their readings....
and when I move out
something to bear inn mind

gas and electricty bills move with the person and dont stay with the house unless you have contracted otherwise. ( power companies are very keen that landlords undertake to pay the standing charge whatever but that needs a signature )
