Do You Think His Brother's Hero Status Will Save Him From Being Deported?

As far as I know those two gentlemen were not given succour by the UK, but no matter. If it was suggested that they were “heroes” then probably yes.
The beatification of Mo Farrah puzzles me enormously. He’s just a geezer who has a talent running. That’s all, nothing more, nothing less. He was taken in by the UK (when there are plenty of other places far nearer to Somalia that might have given him safety) and we were his destination of choice. Other than paying a bit of tax he has made no useful contribution to the nation’s wellbeing apart from entertaining a few people who are amused by watching blokes run round in circles. Yet he achieves sainthood.

Quite honestly the UK authorities should be totally unconcerned with the safety and security of foreign knife-wielding thugs. Instead they should concentrate on providing the population with permanent relief from their activities. If people who abuse this country’s hospitality by committing violent crime knew that they faced immediate deportation to countries where they may face some of the same themselves, they may be more inclined to behave themselves.

No, I don’t believe he was an asylum seeker and maybe my description of him as a “refugee” was not quite appropriate, bednobs. But I believe he was living quite happily in Somalia with his brother (and presumably his mother) before leaving to join his father in the UK. It is not quite clear why his father (who was born in the UK) waited eight years to arrange for his sons to join him or whether changing conditions in Somalia forced that decision. But whatever the reason, the Farrah brothers left Somalia because their father obviously thought life would be better for them in the UK than in Somalia. I assume their mother concurred.
So in my view they arrived here seeking a better life. One brother succeeded (and promptly decamped to the USA) and the other did not. The one that did not committed some fairly nasty crimes and so, again only in my view, betrayed the hospitality this country provided.

I believe that I am still registered as a Club Coach Level athletics coach (probably would need to update) and I must contest Islay's post about better facilities in the USA. They are certainly better in some areas (target shooting etc.) but distance and middle distance running are not included. We have produced world-beaters on our own - Coe, Cram spring to mind.
Mo is a hugely talented athlete who is gifted with the right sort of body for distance running. He works extremely hard and good for him! He does not, however, live in the US because facilities are better. They may be easier to access, but that is all. He lives there because he chooses to.
