I have a Virgin media router that is set about 15 feet away from my computer and its connected by a new earthnet cable. The router also serves my Smart TV which is working fine from the router, the trouble is the computer is not getting a signal via the cable from the router though both end lights on the router cable are flashing but the computer is saying no internet access. It was working several weeks ago but i had to switch my comp off for a lengthy time as i was unable to sit at the desk and so i have been using my laptop for some weeks now. When i came to switch it on again last week it worked ok for a while then it started playing up and now says no internet access. Could the earthnet component require renewing and roughly how much would it cost ?

I think you mean ethernet cable.

If you do need a new one, they are not expensive - probably less than a fiver.

Have you checked that both ends are firmly plugged in?
Have you rebooted the pc?

Yes rebooted both router and computer several times, blew out all ethernet ports on both router and computer , checked the cable for any splits ( shouldn't be as its a new 1 Even tried the cable between the router and the smart tv and the tv picks up the internet so its not the cable < I'm not a computer boffin but i suspect the ethernet port might be malfunctioning, Can it be replaced and how much ?
Are you running Windows? If so, which version?

Have you tried running the troubleshooter?
Ethernet has a driver of its own so maybe seek an upgrade. Is there any particular reason you dont use wifi.
