How many of you can remember real toast done in front of the fire with a toasting fork ? Somehow modern toast done in a toaster just does not taste the same if my memory serves me well.

I'm too young but toast is better cooked under the grill rather than the toaster.

Toast is my favourite comfort food.....it would be my last meal if i was on death row.
Remember my dear old nan back in the 70's doing the toast under a gas grill. The smell was awesome and the sight of my nan in nightie and hairnet with a fag hanging out of her mouth will stay with me forever.

Forward a few years and me and my pal used to toast the bread which was meant for bait when we were night fishing. It would get so cold at night that i'm sure it saved our lives. No butter and cooked over a tiny gas lamp.....love it.
talbot; Two slices! you were lucky, we only had one slice between 16 of us.
I prefer toast made under the grill and sometimes I would let it go almost black on one side, butter it and let it sizzle under the grill and then eat it - I want some toast now!
I also like melted cheese on toast, beans or spaghetti too (not all at the same time)

You're right Ron - toast was simply lovely from the fire - like chargrilled etc.
We used to toast crumpets on a toasting fork, yummy.
I like toast (dripping in butter) however it's cooked.
