With so many millions of pounds of lottery funding coming in to British sport every year, has anybody seen a figure of what an 'ordinary' , say, rower or cyclist who is in full-time training is paid as their 'salary' in a year? Do they all receive the same?

Thanks for your reply, Sapelesam thought nobody was going to answer! Where did you get that figure from ? Haven't found any info at all on this subject, in spite of so much Olympics coverage in the newspapers
I was involved in lottery funding when the current system was put in place. Payments to athletes vary by sport and potential. Total funding to each sport is based on past performance. Speaking to former colleagues, I believe the lowest payments, to young athletes, are not much more than the living wage.
Hi Brianiac, did you see the article on Yahoo about the money paid to athletes by their countries for winning medals. Some examples for Gold Olympic medals. Azerbaijan $510000, Australia $126000, USA $25000, and finally GB, Nil, Nada, *** all.
