We never know what life will serve up and certain things aren't by choice are they?

We simply get on with it.x
Yup!

Agree with Mamya and Baths, I've lived entirely on my own for various reasons and at various times. That includes a Christmas day spent entirely alone, which was surreal, but enjoyable in it's own way.
Bunk if I was to be alone on Xmas day it wouldn't bother me one jot. In fact I do think I would help in a soup kitchen for the homeless then. Would love to do that.
I've done Christmas days alone, some happily others less so, it's just a day.
You should do that jenny:-) Make it your choice unless someone closer to home really needs you. It is indeed just another day Mamya, my family Christmas ways have long gone!
I've lived on my own for the past four decades and I LOVE IT!

I've spent Christmas Day on my own for the past two decades and, although I might have felt bored at times, I've never really felt lonely. As has been said already, it's just another day.
I have lived alone now for 42 years. I prefer my own company to almost everybody else. Its sounds selfish and I suppose it is but I wouldn't change things now.

Having a dog makes a big difference though ....always someone to talk to !
Although I'm generally happy in my own company, and hate having to go out and talk to people, I think I might drive myself a bit mad if I didn't go out and interact in some way. Even if it's just saying hello to the postman.
As some of you probably know, I am the eldest of a large family. As a child and teenager I never had a moments peace. I left home at 17 and for 4 years shared accommodation. When I moved up to N.Wales I secured myself a good job and a flat overlooking the River Conwy. I lived on my own there for the next 10 years(mostly)(^_*) . It was the happiest time of my life and I learned so much about myself just by having those times alone with no one else to factor into my plans. I would do it again like a shot.
