Anyone been on holiday there recently? What's the best currency to take for my friend? Euros or Turkish lira? Change here or there? Don't want to be bringing back unused T lira if poss

lira mostly, it is the local currency after all. Backup euros won't hurt, but a lot of places, especially small traders, may not take them. (Depends how touristy are the places your friend is going.) Best to change them there.
