They have five fundamental beliefs that they will work towards:

– A fair, modern, efficient market based economy that closes the gap between rich and poor and supports strong public services

– A modern democracy that empowers citizens, rather than politicians

– A green economy that protects the environment and works to reverse climate change

– An open and tolerant society where diversity is celebrated in all its forms

– A United Kingdom that welcomes immigration, international co-operation and a close relationship with the EU

There is room for a credible party somewhere between the Conservatives and Labour.
The LibDems have been non elected into oblivion, and the present Labour Party is disfunctional.
More United (terrible name) would collected support from the old Liberals, lefty Tories and Blairite Labour.

Unfortunately, Pantsdown is not the right person to pull this off (sounds rude).
Too old, too discredited and bland.
The new party needs to appeal to the young who are the main people disenchanted with the two party system. Ashdown is like a meddling relative, he means well, but he should just shut up and build model boats.
I think the last two points in the OP will hamper its chances.
GROMIT, it is not a political party and will not be fielding any candidates, only giving support. Their site says they will, "drive change by giving financial and human resource to candidates, from all parties and none, who formally commit to support our principles."
The Lib Dems are most certainly not in oblivion : we don't need yet another new political party and am relieved to see this isn't one. Obviously the Lib Dems would be involved in any realignment that might happen
///– A United Kingdom that welcomes immigration///
He might come a cropper here.
" The Lib Dems are most certainly not in oblivion "

I agree, theyre riding high on the crest of a wave...
"An open and tolerant society where diversity is celebrated in all its forms "

we had some excellent examples last week...rioting in Hyde Park, ransacking a Maccyds, rape in Bromley...etc etc
Well it won't appeal to racists and xenophobes of course but you can't have everything :-)
ichkeria,
The OP asked if this would replace the Labour Party? I was answering the question.
I watched Pantsdown on Andrew Marr this morning, and it was obvious where this 'movement' was heading.
Apologies ichkeria, theat should have been to Corbyloon.
It seems to me, the way things are going, that Labour will split and the 'parliamentarians' will align with Pantsdownistas Lib Demmers and maybe some disaffected pro Europe Tories, while the 'Jezzheads' will keep protesting, opposing and generally keep revolting.
But who knows.
If this takes off I'll eat my hat.

'MORE UNITED' Mmmmm!!!!!

Being a true patriot:

Then why not 'BRITAIN FIRST'????
Doubt it. Ashdown's record isn't particularly good and it all sounds very woolly as well as still being committed to the EU - which a lot of labour voters don't want.
I'll risk being controversial and risk saying that to be honest, as only a minority of labour voters (if we even think we know who those are) voted to leave the EU, then ... tough
This group I imagine is not aimed at them or at Labour people only
ANOTHEOLDGIT it may have escaped your notice but there is already a party called "Britain First" and I am not sure that Ashdown's objectives equate to putting the UK first anyway. Does he say we should be more patriotic?
"ANOTHEOLDGIT it may have escaped your notice but there is already a party called "Britain First""

I doubt it :-)
