Hi! Ran the bath tap upstairs. The water stopped so we turned the tap off and back on again. Nothing but we could hear water running; it was coming through the light fitting in the room below and splashing on the stone floor. I've turned the stopcock off.
I'm presuming there's a leak in the underfloor pipe that feeds the bath tap. We have no water tank - it's a combi boiler.

So my question is - can I turn the water back on and wait till morning to call a plumber or do I need an emergency plumber?

Edit - I've just turned the water back on and, so far, all is quiet but I haven't dared run any taps or flush the loo.
Thank you!

It's posible it is the drain from the bath which is leaking.
We had similar happen about two years ago. A flexible pipe under the bath came adrift as it was not quite long enough and over time the strain gave way and water cascaded down kitchen walls light fitting cupboards. Nightmare. We turned it off till plumber sorted it in morning.
Difficult to know for sure. Plumber gives you peace of mind, but if you turn all the water off and leave it until the morrow that should be ok too. Anything more is at your own risk. I don't think I'd turn that light on in any case.

Thank you everyone. My plan is (altho' we've used other taps and flushed the loo with no problem) to turn the water off when we go to bed, and not to use the lights in the room where the water was coming through. I'm not sure there's anything more a plumber could do tonight anyway without a lot of upheaval in the bathroom!
And charge you twice as much!
If you have turned the water back on and there is no further leak this confirms that your problem is not your mains supply, otherwise it would leak instantly.
Remove the bath panel and I'd bet you will find your problem is to do with the waste from the bath. If you get hold oof the waste and make sure the compression fittings are pushed together and tight. If so go down the pipe to the next joint and check that as well.

Thanks, alavahalf. I don't understand why the tap dried up though?
Sorted ?

Lovely non-emergency plumber has been. Waste seems to be fine. Problem appears to be by the taps which are, unfortunately, the type that are on the length of the bath rather than at the head, so you can't get at them to see what's going on. So he's isolated the water to the bath whilst he goes away to consult.
Blow. That is an awkward position. Bathrooms should be larger and a nice space to get into between the end of the bath and the wall.

I'd have thought he'd remove them and check for anything obvious. Maybe put back, or replace as appropriate. Still, it's good it's being looked at.
