I have never owned a printer before but intend to buy one. It will have very little use apart from the odd letter which I need to write. I saw this one on Amazon, reduced from £50 to £20.

Canon PIXMA MG2450 All-in-One Printer with Full Set of Inks

Any advice from those who have experience of these things?

I don't really need coloured inks.

Personally I hate all printers.
I have never had a good one.
The occasional letter - go to the local library and print it out for 10p and be a happy person.
The stress you will save yourself is beyond belief
Staples is also very good, just put your letter on memory stick and take it there, they will print it off for you.

Thing is I'm not very mobile and don't get out a lot. I think I'll risk it; it's only £20. I just wondered if anyone had experience of this model.
The best printer deal around at the moment is a Mono printer made by Richo. It is a laser printer which means you wont have problems with ink drying out, like you would with an inkjet.
It has great reviews and ideal if you rarely print and are in no need of colour.

Thanks for that alav.
One more point you should consider when buying a cheap printer ... the first thing you should look at is the cost of replacement cartridges. They are often dearer than the printer itself.

Good advice, thanks. As I say I am new to the world of printers.
Jack I am using a Canon pixmar 410 printer. It is wireless enabled and therefor we have set it up in the spare bedroom. We do everything online Bank, BT, Gas, Electrickery, Water, Sky, the works. I have been pleased with it from day 1 and can recommend Canon, you can even have ink delivered as it runs low if you cannot get out easily. Set up is a snip, and of course if you have bother AB tech is there for you.

Comforting to know that, Togo.
That Canon pixmar 410 printer is quite expensive, just looked online.

The model I've ordered is only 20 quid so if it turns out to be a dud I haven't lost much.
SP, I have had it for about 3yrs and only paid about £29 for it at Staples in a sale, or special offer or such like. Super bit of kit though, it has a scanner and fax and can even be set to print silently between set hours. i.e. at night or if someone is in the spare bedroom.
