Hi Jen, they'll be a lot of things to take into consideration for this decision to be made as every individual heals differently.

thanks JD
It depends on many factors including your anaesthetic risk, size and location of tumour(s), psychological factors, etc.
Prosthetics following mastectomy no mercy !
Yes, I know, hence my reply....
My nan had a single mastectomy and I was amazed how quickly she recovered.

anne - what do you mean "no mercy" - I am taking it that it is pretty severe.

Ummmm - double mastectomy and lymphnodes removed from both arms and all sorts of complications. But time will tell.

Thanks all for your answers.

She meant me, Jenny. Of all the people I've ever wanted to stun gun...

Did the lady in question have a skin-sparing mastectomy or an expander insertion?
Quite quicklu. It's just a case of measuring you up for size. My mum was given a temporary foam one to use while the permanent prosthesis was on order
*quickly* I hate typing with two fingers on a tablet

I am going to visit the "lady in question" at the end of the week so will let you know if I can - more detailed information.

If she goes through for the breast implants I think she is mad for getting more "work" done on your body but hey it is her body.
So is your question about breast reconstruction rather than a prosthesis?
Thank you sj my pont exactly

Just an update. Talked to friend today - and it is silicone "fillers" for her bra. However, she was reading instructions of the silicone and it said she had to be careful of them if she was to get radiation which she is starting on 19th so that alarmed her too as she thought the breast nurses could have warned her.
