Does anyone know an eco-friendly way of disposing of out of date bottles of cooking oils? Pouring them down the sink doesn't feel like it would be the right thing to do.

Do not tip it down the sick!

The local tips take cooking oils.
Just pour it back into a old plastic oil bottle from ,say, a deep fat fryer and take it down the dump. No drains ,toilet or kitchen sink for discarded oil. You will invite blockages. It becomes like a waxy emulsion.

many thanks, ummmm and retrocop.
that's what I do ummmm...
same with old sump oil from cars
I put it into empty milk cartons.
Why do you have bottles of used cooking oil, retrocop and ummmm, what's it been used for?
I don't, Eth, it's old cooking oil to be disposed of. It's what the deep fat fryer gets emptied into.
or juice/milk plastic doodahs ^
Oh right. What do you cook in your deep fat fryer?
I make my own chips which I cook in the oven and only use a tablespoon of oil, can't think of anything else I'd cook in it, mond you, I don't have a houseful of hungry men to feed these days ;)
I once had a deep fat fryer and it was such a faff to keep clean binned it.
Hardly anything to be honest. It usually comes out when I've seen a recipe on a cooking programme.

Someone gave me a tip of here on how to clean them. Put a dishwasher tablet in and fill with water and let it simmer on low. Works a wonders. Cleans the baskets too.
good tip ummmm..ta x
^^ Biological washing powder ( the type you wash clothes in) works as well .
Make a strongish solution of powder and water and let it simmer for an hour or so, works for burnt on pans as well.
I think my local chippy uses it.
