They cost too much to trade in for that.
Accidently stick a price tag over the offending symbol.
I would hope no one is daft enough to refuse the legitimacy of a passport with no longer appropriate EU references in it. Surely only useless commercial management can waste money to that extent. At most it would need a law saying it is still valid until expiry. But hopefully that wouldn't even be necessary.
A European Passport and Driving License is a legal document, so have to be accurate. They cannot say we have freedom of Travel in Europe when we do not have that entitlement. So they have to be changed.

£900,000,000 = 45 million licenses @ £20.

I think that's nonsense, Gromit. Are you making it up as you go along?
// At most it would need a law saying it is still valid until expiry. //

The country of entry would have to agree to accepting an invalid passport. Why would they do that?
If Greece had been kicked out of the EU, do you think we would have let Greeks to enter the UK with an out of date and invalid EU passport? Of course we wouldn't.
Our Passports do not *solely* have European Union on the cover, though.
They state ' United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' which we are and will always have been.....

I cannot see that there will be any requirement to change them until such a time as they naturally expire.
"How soon ..can I get a drivers licence without the flat of the wannabe empire"? Is that all you are worried about at this stage? Oh dear

Jth,
There is the anomoly of Isle of Man. Their Passport says European Union on the cover, but they are not, and never have been, in the EU.
I'm not sure of your point, gromit.
Why should the Brexit have any effect on IoM passports, if they have always been incorrect?

In addition to EU, They also state, 'British Islands' and have the Coat of Arms of the UK as do mainland passports...

Overheard in the lottery queue. Concerned woman, "Can I still do the Euro lottery?".
And will we still be able to be in the Eurovision song contest.
Yes of course we could agree with Greece to have honoured the existing passports with all parties accepting that references to the EU no longer apply. Why wouldn't we ?
You will all have to call your German Shepherds Alsatians...Once again.
Hey stuey, I have a colonial dog !
They were originally German Shepherds. Perhaps you have to give them back to the shepherd ?
“New Passports will cost us £3.6BILLION. “

Nobody will need a new passport until their current one runs out. From a date in the future new issues will carry a new (non-EU) design. Since people pay the full cost of their passport renewal the only cost will be the redesign work (which will probably amount to a pot of Snowpake to paste out “European Union” which appears on the front cover and the first page inside above "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland").

“But we are going to need them a lot more”

Er…why? UK citizens need a passport to travel to other EU countries at the present and they will need the same (one) passport to travel there following Brexit.

“They cannot say we have freedom of Travel in Europe when we do not have that entitlement.”

Neither driving licences nor Passports say the holder has freedom of travel in Europe. Freedom to move between Schengen countries is afforded by that agreement and anybody, whether in the area legally or not, has freedom of movement and no documents are necessary (because there are no border checks). People travelling from the UK to a Schengen country need a passport in the same way as they need one to travel to a non-EU country.

“ If Greece had been kicked out of the EU, do you think we would have let Greeks to enter the UK with an out of date and invalid EU passport? Of course we wouldn't.”

We’re not talking about out-of-date passports. They are obviously invalid regardless. But in the circumstances you describe a Greek passport would certainly be valid until expiry.

The point you are missing, Gromit, is that passports are not issued by the EU. They are issued by the individual nations. The only connection with the EU is the two mentions of the organisation I explained above. If you look in your passport you will find that it is “Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State”, not Jean-Claude Juncker, who requests the bearer be allowed free passage. If you look in the back you will find it remains the property of Her Majesty’s Government, not the European Commission.

I know the referendum result must seem a disappointment for some, but they really must get a grip.
