Why does it take so long to count votes? Surely the counters only need to put the voting slips in two piles Remain or Leave. Some regions results will not be known until 6am - what will they be doing all night?

According to TTT, rubbing out the leave votes and marking in the remain.
Rubbing out the pencil crosses and putting them where they want lol ;-)

It takes a long time to rub out all the marks

it seems to depend on the size of the voting area ( ork v small ) .
and the number of counters ... hired

Manch was gonna be 11 am or something but s/o obviously put a bimb under them
