Gromit, According to the link I gave to the Telegraph, 58% of Italians want a referendum and 48% would vote ‘out’ – 55%/41% for France - but whichever poll you prefer, there is a still considerable amount of discontent and ‘fantasy’ it is not
Naomi,

In your link:
The Telegraph/Ipsos poll of European countries, none of those asked if they would vote to leave is over 50%. Meaning they would all vote to Remain.
The countries wishing to join; Albania and Serbia etc. are all financial basket cases seeking aid, a large proportion of which will come from the UK. The EU rules are that the more successful you are, the more you have to pay in. Cameron refused the demand for 2 billion last year, but in the end, it was quietly paid.
It 48% of Italians vot Leave, then 52% are voting to Stay.
Our contributions to the EU are fixed to our GNI. We will pay the same amount if Serbia joins or not.

Gromit
//Our contributions to the EU are fixed to our GNI. We will pay the same amount if Serbia joins or not.//
It's very basic stuff: If a new member needs money (and boy will they need money!) a large proportion will have to come from the EU, the EU then demands more money from its members, and the UK pays more. The more successful the UK is, the bigger the proportion is its contribution.
Gromit, a 4% gap? Clearly the discontent is far from the fantasy you claim it to be.
Khandro,

// EU, the EU then demands more money from its members, and the UK pays more. //.

No it doesn't. Our contribution is fixed to our GNI. If that goes down, we pay less. If it does up we pay more, irrespective of Serbia joining.

The EU budget is set from a known figure of contributions. If contributions are up, it means Europe is doing well. There is always an allocation for EU Development. IF an new member country needed funds it would be prioritised from existing budgets.
Naomi,

I said it was fantasy that France wanted to leave. Your linked to graph confirms that, only 41% of the French want to leave.

The figure for Italy shows a 4% lead for Remaining, but Khandro had said they wanted to Leave.
Gromit, no, Khandro didn't say that. He said //Huge public opinion in Italy to leave.// - and he’s right. 48% is pretty substantial.

You said // It is pure fantasy that The french want to leave.// Not for 41% of the French – again a substantial number.

Wanting it to be as you’d like it to be doesn’t make it so, Gromit,
OK. Before I left France no fewer than 5 local communes voted 100% (I repeat 100%) for the Front National. Others varied of course. On the whole, in our area, La Vienne, the vote split between the Communists and the National Front. Both are antagonistic to the EU. Does that help you Gromit?
Naomi,
Ok, Huge public opinion in France and Italy to leave. But even more huge public opinion wanting to Stay.

If Leave get 41% on Thursday it will also be huge.

Jourdain2
The link Naomi supplied earlier had a poll of French voters, and 41% wanted a Frexit, (meaning 59% were for staying). Your recollections of your village in France do not seem to be representative of the nation as a whole.
And in December's elections...

// France's far-right National Front (FN) has failed to win a single region in the second round of municipal polls. //
Gromit, not huge contentment though, is there. Dissent is palpable.
Gromit. I'm not talking about my village. I'm talking about 5 Communes and the whole of La Vienne. Don't downplay this. I'm still in touch and if anything attitudes against the EU are hardening.
// Gromit, not huge contentment though, is there. Dissent is palpable. //

But the majority carries. 63.9% of voters didn't vote for the Conservatives, but they rule because the got the biggest share of votes.
