I was told by my doc last week [after results of blood tests] that I have high cholesterol....6. something. How easy [and how long] does it take to bring it down if you cut down your fats?

And could someone tell me please what is the difference between good and bad cholesterol. Thank you.

I just did one thing to lower cholesterol. I started each day with porridge for breakfast and the number came down.
your doctor should have explained all that to you, anyway look at this

A lot will also depend on whether it is caused by diet/lifestyle or whether it is genetic.

Thanks, I shall try porridge.

My doc did explain some of it to me, but I get anxious at the doctors...
I will second the porridge post from Grassy. It worked for Mr T.
Good cholesterol is called HDL ( High density Lipoprotein)
Bad Cholesterol is called LDL ( Low density Lipoprotein)

You need the former but not the latter.

I don't think 6 is too bad.

There is a dispute amongst scientist whether cutting out fats lowers the cholesterol.....some say that a high fat diet lowers your cholesterol.

I don't know your medical history, but don't get "hung up" on good, bad, cholesterol and diets.

yes...try porridge......I hate the bloody stuff.
I remember my friend taking the test and 1 -5 was considered good. 6 could therefore not be considered high !
