This was always going to be seriously difficult in almost all areas.

Trying to re-tread such a massivcely successful formula with new people was probably just not a good idea, but the BBC saw pound signs and went for it anyway.

It does need time to bed in, and for everyone, presenters, media, detractors, to calm down.

Of course, this may well be the same time that the viewing figures tank - but it should still be given a fair chance.

I have no axe to grind either way - I have always thought the show is Last Of The Summer Wine with cars - grownups behaving like children which is not remotely entertaining for me.

We shall see ...
I watched it on catchup last night and apart from a few times where chris evans grated a bit I found the hour passed quickly which usually means I enjoyed it.
Give Mr Evans a chance to learn from his over enthusiastic commentary and I think it will be ok.

My Verdict - stick with it for now
I think he will settle down.

There is massive pressure for him to succeed - and a nasty smear campaign through the media in the last few weeks stirring up trouble where it appears none exists.

It's a big change for everyone involved - but viewers have to accept that the original programme has gone, and it's not coming back, so either get on board with this one, or turn your attention to something else.
I did not judge programme by anything anyone said in the media. I just found it boring and switched off. I am certain that Chris Evans will not/cannot change or evolve into anything other than what he is.
I don't mind Chris Evans, I just simply haven't gotten around to watching it yet. What little I have seen did seem odd but will give it a fair bat.
I recorded it for my OH and he has since watched it. Says he's not bothered about further episodes because he's not a fan of Chris Evans.
cupid - given that you'd have to be living in a cave to have escaped the huge hype surrounding this rather pointless show - your husband must have had an inkling that CE was going to be in evidence, since he is the host - so why would he bother watching at all?
I don't think the show was over hyped, you know nothing about her husband, I think you were a bit rude there.

Do you know if Jon Snow is alive or dead or where Luke Skywalker is?
Both those shows/films are over hyped.
Of course OH knew Chris Evans would be running the show...He just thought he'd give it a fair go and he did.

Fair enough - thank you.

The perception of hype depends entirely on the amount of hype you receive, which in turn depends on the interests you enjoy, and the media you engage with.

I haven't seen the new Star Wars film, and any hype about it passed me by.

As far as I am aware, John Snow is presenting the Channel 4 news as usual - unless something has happened recently of which I am unaware.
Lol, so why do you assume that cupids husband will have seen the hype for Top Gear when you have missed the Star Wars and Game of Thrones Hype?
Lol Randy, I love GOT...(Haven't seen series six yet) but I thought you meant the news presenter. Doh!
omg, get NOW tv for free now and watch the new series!
that good then :-) They're pending at my bro's to be picked up using USB.
I'll make an effort to go across at the weekend.

Jon Snow, Newsreader, LOL !
It has been so well acted, lots of tears and gasps.
Better tonight, not quite as shouty.
I want that Jag....
