I have always wondered what Ozzie crocs get to eat, when there aren't any stupid tourists around.

According to a report on the radio earlier, the area is known for crocodiles, so, yes she was stupid ! Feel sorry for her though.

Mikey > crocodiles are regarded as the most dangerous extant crocodilian to humans.

'I am living proof of that fact' stated David Icke.

agchristie....lol, although don't get me onto that subject again !

Reading the wiki link, these salties seem to be a formidable creature. I am not sure I would be having any night-time dips within a 1000 miles of them !
Mikey...are you just ignoring any negative comments?
to answer ummmm..."Should we all stay out of the sea in case we get attacked by a shark or bitten by a jelly fish? ", simple answer is yes! In the words of the great Billy Connolly, we don't belong there!
the MP said there were lots of signs around and the women "must have seen them". That doesn't mean they did, though. Personally, I wouldn't go swimming anywhere much in Australia after dark without checking everything, but Australians themselves may well be more blasé about it.

I do see a slight difference between tourists going for a swim for pleasure and refugees trying to escape war zones, though.
B00, we all came from the sea originally. Me more recently than most, I expect.

No, only inane comments Ummm.

well....you did ask !
Have just watched the local news here in Ozland and the locals were agreeing that while the beach was most picturesque they wouldn't risk swimming there because of the crocs ...and I didn't see any warning signs.

The woman who was taken came from country NSW ... But anyone who swims in north Qld has got to be nuts !!!
They aren't inane comments, Mikey, you can't write someone off as stupid because they go for a dip.

I'm not stupid, but I have done some risky things over the years.

seekeerz....nice to get a Ozzie opinion about this case !

This area of North Queensland is famous for salties, and I am in complete agreement with the local politician that this woman took a stupid risk.

Its dreadfully sad of course but its entirely her own fault. Perhaps it will be a lesson for other people not to make the same mistake.

Ummm...there is a world of difference between taking a dip at Brighton, and doing the same in dangerous crocodile infested waters. She took a huge risk and now appears to have paid the price.
Are they infested waters? Isn't this species endangered? The last attack was in 2009 so that doesn't suggested infested waters to me.
We were at Steve Irwins Zoo in Queensland a few years ago Mikey, we went to the Croc Area, they looked evil. they don't take prisoners.
TBH it wouldn't be safe swimming off of Brighton at night in the dark either, there are currents and shifting sands and an inexperienced swimmer could soon get into trouble.
I do see a slight difference between tourists going for a swim for pleasure and refugees trying to escape war zones, though.

Since when has Turkey been a war zone , jno?
And how did he die? And was he considered stupid?
That was to TWR.
Is there any sand in Brighton?
They are still protected, presumably endangered, but there must be a fair few of them as the news stories say the numbers have boomed.
