If the weather improves, I'm thinking of firing up my charcoal barbecue.
The main point of my question is - Whats the best way to cook sausage links, bearing in mind that my hand is less steady than it used to be, not that this will stop me though.
I'm toying with the idea of using grilling baskets for the sausages, that are normally used for, fish, burgers, steaks etc.
I find skewers annoying, when whatever you put on them, seems to spin back to where it started.

What kind of BBQ do you have? Does it have shelves?
Were I to cook a string of sausages on a barbecue I'd separate them and just stick them on the grill, turning occasionally.
