One encourages more to try, and more dead bodies washed up on the beach, by giving out hope that they can go just where they want.

As for the channel, that's just insane. I know they want to get out of France but even that awful fate isn't worth risking one's life for.

I hadn't realised that the UK Border Force was situated on the French side of the channel. That's very good of the Frenchies.
who is the fella in Dads Army - white haired old buffer - who says things like 'you should be doing that you shouldnt'

yeah he should be on the boats
with a megaphone so that he can shout at the drowning people

'you shouldnt be doing that without a stamp in your passport!
what you doing there drowning without the proper paper work ?'

and then a voice behind him says - home jeeves ....

as 3T might say : problem solved !
the only "humanitarian" thing to do to stop dead children arriving on the beaches of kent would be to hand out free ferry tickets to anyone who fetched up at the Port of Calais.

hands up all those who think that might even be half-way politically acceptable?

/// Sandy...that would be the humanitarian response, not always popular here on AB. ///

Haven't you any humane feelings for your fellow countrymen, women and children?

Once again can you put a figure on how many we should take in, and unless your answer is every one of them, what about those that aren't included in that figure, would it not be inhuman in your eyes to leave them out also?
Have they been security or health checked for the sake of our own people?
AOG....what Sandy and I are saying is that we should rescue people who arrive that this, and to do so is a humanitarian response. There are some on here that would push people back out to sea, along with any dead bodies.

And there are some on here who are prepared to welcome such as these.

Still awaiting a figure of how many we should take in.
AOG...I don't think I can anything more to what I have already said.

Or not said, it would seem.
Or not read perhaps AOG ?

And can you put a figure on the amount, a thousand, ten thousand, 20 thousand, 100 thousand?
-- answer removed --

I really don't understand why this lot were brought to Dover.
While we have a Border Control in Calais what the heck was wrong with taking them back there.
//what Sandy and I are saying is that we should rescue people who arrive like this, and to do so is a humanitarian response. //

that is just what we should not be doing. we should instead be doing one of two things, either:-
1) discouraging people from attemting the crossing in totally unsuitable craft, or
2) giving allcomers free passage on the safety of a car ferry.

to give those in Calais any sort of indication that they will definitely be rescued if their boat disintegrates en route means that there will continue to be voyagers setting out in toy boats and the like, with the possibility of dead bodies - including BABIES - washed up on our beaches. remember there are very few resources left to patrol the channel with (only 3 coastguard cutters between dover and portsmouth).
We can't keep letting them in wlly nilly and I agree with ummmm at 9:41.
AOG...I don't think I can anything more to what I have already said.

That would be fine if you had actually added anything of any substance to the debate. You have been asked a direct question mikey ... why not address it?

Who are these people who would push the immigrants back into the sea?
Am I the only one who really doesn't care what happens to these people, as long as they don't end up here?
Hopefully
Completely agree bigbad, they could be members of Isis and armed to the teeth, let us take the ones from the refugee camps in Syria.

And mikey and sandy, try getting into another country without a passport, see how far you get.

We don't want them here, let them stay in safe France.

Dave.
So hands up if you're happy to watch them drown.
Whether we can hold more people is not the issue, it's what you do as an immediate response that is the question.
